I wanted to encourage you to consider the contests on the MUSE board. You are guaranteed to win.
Each month they run a contest. There are two types, which are alternated. The first type is called a "1+1", and that means one vocal and one instrument. The 2nd is open format, where anything goes.
Now, just as on this board, on the MUSE board there are some amazingly talented songwriters. So, that means, many of the rest of us don't have a prayer to be #1.
Yet I still enter most months. The reason is, that the songs are scored on an average of scores which are provided to you, along with the scores of everyone else. In other words, you get a specific, numerical sense of where you are in the pact.
Over the last year, I have made my way from the 25% point (bottom), to fairly consistently around the 50% point.
The beauty of this contest is not whether one gets #1 (although, if that happened, that would be even better), but that you receive a very good sense of how good your song was and where it stood in the pack. You can look at the higher ranking songs and learn what makes them better, etc.
Here's a link to the Oct contest. The results of the contest are in teh 3rd post. So you can see what the outcome of these contests are.
Who rates them? Well, normally, about 75% of the raters are other songwriters in the contest. The other 25% are members of the MUSE board. We're taking typically 15-20 votes. But I've gotton quite a lot out of participating.
There is a minimal posting requirement on the board, so if you are not a regular poster there you might have to wait to the next cycle.
