As per Jon Chappell: So... I guess we'll see how long we last over here. Says archiving is from 10-27 until 10-29.

What's bothering me is the fact that that isn't true. Or, not the whole truth. So, the archiving is why the forum is running "slow"? And is that how it's running? Slow? Hmmm, that's not the word I'd use. Why don't they just say,
"Hey, we've been attacked by alien spammers and really don't think anything will ever be the same. But we're going to try to save all the legacy stuff as best we can, then kill everything in hopes we can rebuild like the mighty phoenix. But frankly, it looks pretty bleak, fuckers. It was fun though, yeah? "
I have no issue staying here and feel very betrayed by the powers that be over there for their lack of communication on the topic. Anything now is just too late and a lie. It ain't Watergate for god sakes. Jeez.

Well, I think it's important to have some perspective. AFAIK, HC is not a money maker in any way. I'm pretty sure advertising does not offset cost of operation. AIUI, the resources are 'shaved off' of Musician's Friend's overall operation. And, of course, MF and parent company, Guitar Center, are themselves in big trouble. GC was bought by Bain Caplital in 2007 and by 2009 was in serious financial difficulty. According to their most recent profit/loss filings, they only had an operating income of ~13 million -- but interest payments of over 41 million. You can do the math yourself -- but the filing shows an operating loss of $28M for the last 3 months. When you're faced with that kind of economic situation, the small stuff falls through the cracks. And as third world peasants know all too well living in poverty while the wealthy build palaces in the hills and mountains -- and to parahprase a bit for the sake of propriety -- sewage runs downhill. I'll be participating wherever the community is, perhaps in both places. I also participate at times in the relatively new songwriting forum over at GearSlutz -- but, to be frank, I feel like the tenor of discussion there reinforces (in my mind) the value of having a good set of on-topic rules in place.

I will keep this place running as long as it makes sense to do so. I'm happy to make it permanent, but I suspect if HC ever gets it together, folks will gravitate back there.

What's comical is scrolling through all the different forums and seeing the same types of pissed off threads in every single one of them. (That is, if you can even get on...)

HC is not a money maker in any way. And it's not a money maker for me either. But if I had important info to share concerning the welfarre of a community I was a part of, I'd make an announcement. Maybe I completely misread the arrangement, but I always figured there to be someone running the show at HC. And when that community get absolutely turned upsidedown, it feels very strange to not have a mention of it anywhere. As if we don't notice the site is hosed. But of course there is someone running the show there. And that someone has made a conscious choice to stay silent. Sounds chickenshit to me. And selfish. I am not an indigent radical, it's not my style, but this blows and I'm speaking out. Power to the people right on! Uh... oops.
