Final, until you come up with a better idea. Verse harmony added, bridge rap still gone but smoothed the transition fore and aft. Took a lot of JustionOw's ideas. And a little bit of pop sprinkles here and there, with a side of ice cream. And maybe some brandy poured over. Am I sick of it? You bet ! No need to comment here if you're as burnt on this as I am. At least posting it here sort of puts it to rest. Unless...

Lee... your production skills are second-to-none. For me, and this is a personal thing, there is a bit too much 80's nostalgia... uncomfortably so. I think, you could change that by just removing the tinkly bell sound you have going on occasionally. Other than that, I really like the song... the cadence... everything about it. It's just that... I feel like David Hasselhoff would be making a guest appearance in your video... and it would serve the song well to avoid that.

I feel like David Hasselhoff would be making a guest appearance in your video... As I've never seen or heard a video by The Hoff, I couldn't say. I think the production is tight. I'm not 100% sure if I like that or wish it were 10 or 15% looser. I don't know. I like it so much but I don't know if the production a) gets in the song's way, or b) masks the song's defects (if any), or c) is too damn good for me to care about any of that. Or all three. Maybe this cold has swollen my brain as well as my nasal passages...

I feel like David Hasselhoff would be making a guest appearance in your video... and it would serve the song well to avoid that. I've been actively pursuing The Hoff for the staring role in the video and here you go and say it like it's a bad thing!!! Hmmm, I might be out of touch here and lost in the 80's myself because I don't hear anything the resembles the 80's. That's not to say you're wrong as much as I'm out of touch maybe. The 1st half of V1's drums are panned in which does make the snare there sound a bit digital reverb a la MTV, which is ironic cause it's natural room sound compressed, but I do hear the 80's thing there, but sort of like it. The bells are a sample of a celesta from Kontakt but I can see how that might evoke DX7 bells, which I loathe. But to your ears it sums up as an 80's overkill. That's kind of scary to me, but I think my head is too far up my backside with regards to it right now to make any meaningful changes in the direction you suggest. I'm hoping a little time will either give me either the ability to hear what you're referring to clearer or have more conviction in my vision. The original vision to to get a hybrid of a few different eras. 50's with the Bari and oohweeoos, 70's with the Free electric guitar hook thing, A 70's with the drums. 70's bass. 80's voice? The Costello thing? That might be doing you in. IT does me plenty of times. Ok, now I'm really lost. Right now, I have neither.

hmmm... I wonder if changing that celesta sound to an octave piano part like Oliver's Army/Accidents Will Happen / Dancing Queen would help or hurt...
Those are all 80's things but somehow I don't think that's the kind of 80's reference you're talking about. Then again, I could go total new digital synth like NI MASSIVE and bring it a bit of modern to it.
Did I mention I'm lost?

I think it sounds great. I'll have some more detail about the very last 20 seconds or so later, but up to then I didn't hear anything that bothered me.
BTW, I can't stop chuckling at this: "Am I sick of it? You bet !"
;D

Sounds terrific - You should be a star. I especially like the riff in this version that comes after the word actor.
Are you really sick of it? That's the way it is in musicbiz. Otherwise you shoulda been an actor......

No... for me, it's just the bells. That's what's bugging me.

FWIW, I could barely hear the bells on my crappy computer speakers. I probably would not have noticed them at all had Bee not pointed them out.
My guess is you're not going to make any changes for the better while you're in the "I'm sick of this song" mood, so I'd suggest calling it done for now.

OK, relistening and I have to admit that the bells bugged me this time around. They didn't last time, FWIW, so it might just be me focusing on them more. But I might consider cutting them down good deal, they are really up front on these computer speakers.
Regarding the end, it just feels 10-15 seconds too long. I'm not confident about this idea, but how about dropping the first run through from 2:38 - 2:51, and just go directly from the lead bit to the 2:52 breakdown. I think by then the chorus has been imprinted on people's brains and the twist might make it interesting by playing with expectations.

I won't be making changes right now but all the input is kept and I go over it once I do revisit the tune later. Regardiung the bells, they might just be too belly. I really want something an octave up from that Free/Kassoff electric guitar part. Hence, the celesta. But it doesn't have to be that and I have some ideas. But as MU suggests, I won't be making any changes right away... ...just notes. Thanks guys.

I'm sold - show me where to sign and I'll be driving the Camaro off the lot right now.
-3 db on the bells. Everything else is perfect.

I told myself I wasn't going to work on this but... it was a crazy day yesterday and I really didn't have the energy to get into Piano Lessons Down the Hall so I just jumped in there for "a minute" and messed with different sounds for that dreaded bell part.
I found this dusty old electric Pianet. Funky mud. Kind of cool,. Which then inspired me to mess with using different octaves for the part. It starts up, next one is down and folded into the band more... etc.
I think it works. If I can find the time I'll post it later this week. Thanks Bee3 for pushing on that. You were right.
And JustinOsw, I hear you on the outro but THAT is truly a can of worms that will require a fresh perspective to really change it for the better. Later on that one.
